Rumors are making circles of gaming world about the possible introduction of social networking capabilities on Sony PlayStation3. It is expected that this would be introduced in the upcoming firmware update. Sony has to do this to counter Microsoft XBOX’s advanced social media integration dashboard with Facebook, twitter and last.fm.

Scrawlfx.com unearthed a bit of evidence  form one of Sony European websites that shows Facebook settings in the User Accounts area of PlayStation3 XMB (cross media bar) navigation interface. This is evidently for some sort of Facebook integration.

As you might expect Sony denied any commenting on ‘rumor or speculation’. Though this leaked screenshot is still up, Sony could pull them down shortly as they are fueling rumors. These are mockups for internal viewing and could mean anything. But with competitors already high in social networking area Sony has to get some thing hot and happening too. So these graphics are much more than speculations.
