The Ultimate Threat to Apple iPhone : Verizon Droid

The combined forces of Google, Motorola and Verizon have come up with the ultimate weapon to challenge Apple’s iPhone. Droid, also known as Tao or Sholes, looks all set for the fight that could begin as early as the end of this month. Will iPhone stand another super challenge or will the flood of Android phones finally deliver the Hit? Let us find out.

Industry had tipped Palm Pre to give some serious fight to Apple iPhone in mobile phone market. Even though it was a remarkably good phone it could not stand out in hardware performance. Droid comes with four big advantages over the previous challenger.

  1. Verizon Network : Power of a huge Network

  2. Android 2.0 : Probably the best Mobile OS with heavily upgraded UI.

  3. Powerful Core : Runs on TI OMAP3430 that powers iPhone and Palm Pre (not confirmed)

  4. Slide out keyboard : Those who love to type on the keyboard are going to love Droid for sure.

It is said that Droid will look quite similar to iPhone and possibly a bit thinner even with its slide out keyboard. Google, Motorola and Verizon have put in their best into this phone and the idea is definitely to take on Apple’s iPhone directly. Industry experts who have been around the phone are buzzing about it. As things get intresting and the suspence mounts I leave the final verdict on the consumers and critics. crap!!! no way close to iphone and its Application Store!!! :)
  • Apps store for Iphone is large and popular because the phone is popular. If Droid gains popularity.. (it probably will) the apps store will swell like hell. There is no dearth of Google supporters and yeah dont over look the Google advertising network. They will virtually flash droid across the earths surface.

add the features mentioned in the post above to the ones I list and see where iPhone stands.

This is the not the final challenge. More androids are in pipeline and with a strong network and growing apps store..iPhone might fall. I am sorry but you might have to ditch yours for an android soon.
  • Agreed, the fact that you can buy an Andriod app and run it on other Android based phones and Apple rejecting more and more iphone apps angreed few major developers to defect to Android. I personally use and love my iPhone but i believe we cannot ignore the fact that competition is heating up :)
