This is to bring to the notice of our readers that a large number of Hotmail accounts have been exposed recently. BBC just confirmed the news and we advice you to work fast on the tip off to protect your hotmail / live / msn accounts. I have just done mine before posting this to mashyep.
It so happens that some one posted a list of 10,000 usernames and passwords to a code sharing site. The list covers users with names in a series, starting with ‘A’ through ‘B’. So rumors are that there could be more accounts that have been compromised. Though the list has been removed experts suggest there is still a considerable threat. Microsoft is already investigating the issue and we expect a reason and solution to massive breach.
Technology blog Neowin.net that first reported the issue also suggests that the accounts have either been hacked or collected through a well coordinated phishing scheme. The accounts and passwords were posted on pastebin.com, a site used by developers to share code. But some sources also mention that its users have been known to have shared email account details before.
Studies say that around 40% of internet users use the same password for most of the sites that they use frequently. So imagining that you use a common passkey for MSN, Yahoo, google, Facebook and Twitter all your important accounts are compromised. That is more terrible than loosing your credit card. So stay alert and spread the message.
