In an interesting development Technology giants Apple, have sued Australian supermarket chain Woolworths over the latter’s new logo. IP Australia, the country’s top intellectual property organization, has received a legal challenge form Apple claiming that consumers would not be able to differentiate between the two brands and therefore Woolworths trademark be rejected.

Have a look at both the logos. They do seem to have a visual similarity. While Apple being a technology company has the metallic looking bitten into apple, Woolworths on the other hand promotes fresh green food and hence the green fruity W. So why would Apple be so harsh about this logo design? As per some reports Woolworths chain is to launch a series of electronic products under its own brand. So there would be laptops and gadgets competing directly with Apples Macs and iPhones. This is what really pinches Apple’s brand affinity.
Apple had been known to defend its identity with all its might. It ran into rough waters with Beatles group as they created a new company to manage their interests worldwide and decided to name it Apple Corps.
